FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
Your Questions, Answered
New Guests
What should I expect on my first visit?
We want your first visit to feel effortless. Plan to arrive a few minutes early — you’ll be warmly welcomed, offered a beverage, and paired with your stylist for a thorough consultation before any service begins. There’s no pressure, just a genuine conversation about your hair goals.
Is there parking at your locations?
Parking details vary by location. You’ll find specific directions and parking notes on each location page. If you have any trouble, our team is always happy to help — just give us a call. You’ll also find hours and contact information for each salon on our locations page.
Do you offer services for men and children?
We welcome guests of all ages and offer haircut and color services for everyone. Appointments are booked based on hair length, with options for Short Haircut or Long Haircut to ensure appropriate timing and pricing. Guests under 12 are seen by appointment only. If you’re unsure which service to choose, we’re happy to guide you or recommend a consultation.
Booking & Stylists
What do the different stylist levels mean?
Our salon offers a range of stylist levels so you can choose the right fit for your style, experience preference, and budget. Associate Stylists are newer to the industry and offer services at a lower price point, making them a great option if you’re looking for value while still receiving quality care. Our Stylists have more hands-on experience and training, with slightly higher pricing that reflects their growing expertise. Creative Stylists bring advanced skills, a strong guest following, and higher demand, which is reflected in their pricing. At the top tier, our Master Stylists have the most experience, continued education, and guest demand, offering a premium service experience. No matter the level, all of our stylists are committed to ongoing education and regularly refine their skills to stay current with the latest techniques and trends. Pricing can vary within each level based on the individual stylist, and we’re always happy to help you find the best match for your hair goals.
Can I request a specific stylist?
When booking, you can browse and select your preferred stylist. We love when guests find their person — building a long-term relationship with your stylist is one of the things that makes the Lunatic Fringe experience so special. While you’re always welcome to request a specific stylist, please note that not all of our stylists are available to book online. If you don’t see your preferred stylist listed, we recommend calling the salon location directly, and our team will be happy to assist you with scheduling.
Do you accept walk-ins?
We always love seeing new and returning guests walk through our doors. While we’re happy to accommodate walk-ins when the schedule allows, reserving an appointment in advance is the best way to ensure we have the time and the right stylist available for your desired service. Booking ahead means no waiting, a more relaxed experience, and the peace of mind that your visit is planned just for you.
Services
Do you offer consultations?
Yes. Every appointment begins with a thorough consultation — and if you’d like to come in just to chat before committing to a service, we encourage that too. Great hair starts with a great conversation.
How long will my appointment take?
It depends on the service. A haircut typically takes 45–60 minutes, while color services can range from 90 minutes to several hours depending on the complexity. When you book, you’ll see an estimated duration for each service — and your stylist will give you a clearer picture during your consultation.
What if I'm not happy with my results?
Your satisfaction is our highest priority. If anything falls short, please reach out within two weeks of your appointment and we’ll resolve it with care and attention. We stand fully behind our work.
Extension booking & care
How do I get started?
To book an extension service, guests must first schedule a consultation by calling the salon. This required consultation allows your stylist to assess the desired look, discuss pricing, and ensure a precise color match for your extensions.
What happens during the consultation?
During your consultation, we’ll determine product availability. If the appropriate hair is in stock, we may be able to accommodate a same-day installation. In some cases, the hair will need to be ordered and the installation scheduled once it arrives.
Is a deposit required?
Yes — a deposit is required at the time you commit to the extension service to reserve the hair and secure your installation appointment.
Before your appointment
Set expectations so the install goes smoothly and the results last.
- – Arrive with clean, dry hair. Wash 24 hours before using a clarifying or lightweight shampoo. Avoid heavy conditioners, oils, or leave-ins at the root.
- – No product buildup. Excess oils or silicones can affect adhesion, especially for tape-ins and K-tips.
- – Come detangled. This maximizes your appointment time and ensures an even install.
- – Wear comfortable clothing. A loose top or button-down is ideal, especially for longer appointments.
- – Plan for time. Some methods (like K-tips or full wefts) can take several hours. Bring anything you need to stay comfortable.
After your appointment
This is where you protect longevity, comfort, and overall look.
First 48 hours (especially important for tape-ins & K-tips)
- – Avoid washing your hair.
- – Skip workouts, saunas, and excess sweating.
- – Keep products away from the attachment points.
Washing & conditioning
- – Wash 2–3 times per week with extension-safe products recommended by your stylist.
- – Focus conditioner on mid-lengths and ends — avoid the roots and attachment areas.
- – Always rinse thoroughly to prevent buildup.
Brushing & daily care
- – Brush at least once or twice daily using an extension-friendly brush.
- – Always support the root area when brushing to avoid tension.
- – Never brush soaking wet hair — start gently from the ends and work up.
Sleeping
- – Tie hair in a loose braid or ponytail before bed.
- – Use a silk or satin pillowcase to reduce friction and tangling.
Heat styling
- – You can heat style — always use a heat protectant.
- – Avoid direct heat on bonds, tapes, or attachment points.
Lifestyle tips
- – Braid hair for swimming or workouts to prevent tangling.
- – Rinse hair after swimming in chlorine or salt water.
- – Keep sunscreen, oils, and self-tanner away from extensions — they can cause discoloration or slippage.
Maintenance & move-ups
- – Schedule maintenance every 6–10 weeks depending on the method and your natural growth.
- – Regular upkeep is essential to prevent matting, slipping, or stress on your natural hair.
When to reach out
- – If you notice slipping, discomfort, or tangling near the root.
- – If something doesn’t feel right or looks off.
- – If you’re unsure about products or care routines.
Before & After Your Perm
Before your perm
How should I prepare my hair?
Come in with clean, dry hair. Avoid heavy styling products, oils, or leave-ins the day of your service.
Should I wash my hair before a perm?
Come with product-free hair. We will wash your hair to ensure it’s stripped of oils and environmental buildup before we begin your perm service.
Can I color my hair before getting a perm?
Yes, but timing matters. We recommend coloring your hair at least 1–2 weeks before your perm to maintain hair health and ensure even results.
What if my hair is bleached or damaged?
We’ll assess your hair during your consultation — a test strand is sometimes necessary. Some highly lightened or compromised hair may not be suitable for perming or may require a gentler approach.
How long does the service take?
Most perm services take 2–3 hours depending on hair length, density, and the desired curl pattern.
What to expect during your appointment
Will my perm look tight at first?
Yes — your curls may appear slightly tighter initially and will relax into their final shape over the first 1–2 weeks.
Is there a smell?
Some perm solutions have a noticeable scent during processing, but we take steps to keep your experience comfortable.
After your perm
When can I wash my hair?
Wait at least 48 hours before washing — or 72 hours for coarse hair. This allows the curl structure to fully set.
Can I tie my hair up right after?
Avoid ponytails, clips, hats, or tucking your hair behind your ears for the first 48 hours to prevent dents in the curl pattern.
What products should I use?
Use curl-friendly shampoos and conditioners recommended by your stylist. Moisture is key — look for hydrating and protein-balanced products.
Do I need special styling products?
Yes. Curl creams, mousses, or light gels will help define your curls and reduce frizz. We’re happy to recommend products based on your hair type.
Can I brush my hair?
Avoid brushing dry curls. Use a wide-tooth comb or your fingers when your hair is wet or damp.
How should I dry my hair?
For the best curl definition, skip the traditional towel — regular towels create friction that leads to frizz and disrupts your curl pattern. Gently squeeze out excess water with a microfiber towel or a cotton t-shirt to keep curls soft, defined, and frizz-free. Air drying is best, but you can also use a diffuser on low heat and low speed to enhance curl definition.
Maintenance & longevity
How long will my perm last?
Typically 3–6 months, depending on your hair type, lifestyle, and how well you follow aftercare instructions.
Will my hair grow out curly?
No — new growth will be your natural texture. You may notice a difference between your roots and permed lengths over time.
Can I color my hair after a perm?
Wait at least 1–2 weeks after your perm before coloring to protect your hair’s integrity.
Will a perm damage my hair?
Modern perm systems are designed to be gentler than traditional formulas, but any chemical service can cause dryness. Proper aftercare is essential to keep your hair healthy.

Smoothing treatment prep & aftercare
Before your smoothing treatment
How should I prepare my hair?
Come in with clean, dry hair. Avoid heavy styling products, oils, or leave-ins the day of your service.
Should I wash my hair before a smoothing treatment?
Yes — washing your hair the day of or the day before your appointment is ideal.
Can I color my hair before a smoothing treatment?
Yes. We recommend completing your color service before your smoothing treatment for the best results. This can often be done the same day or within the week prior.
What if my hair is damaged?
We’ll assess your hair during your consultation and choose the most appropriate formula. Smoothing treatments can often help improve the look and feel of dry or frizzy hair, but hair health is always our top priority.
How long does the service take?
Most smoothing treatments take 2–3 hours, depending on your hair length, density, and desired result.
What to expect during your appointment
Will my hair be completely straight?
Not necessarily. Smoothing treatments are designed to reduce frizz, enhance shine, and improve manageability. Your final result may be sleek and straight or a softer, smoother version of your natural texture.
Is there a smell?
Some smoothing treatments may have a mild scent during the service. We take steps to ensure your experience is as comfortable as possible.
After your smoothing treatment
When can I wash my hair?
This depends on the formula used. Some treatments allow same-day washing, while others require waiting up to 48 hours. Your stylist will provide exact instructions for your service.
Can I tie my hair up right after my treatment?
If your treatment requires a waiting period, avoid ponytails, clips, or tucking your hair behind your ears during that time to prevent dents.
What products should I use?
Use sulfate-free, sodium chloride–free shampoos and conditioners recommended by your stylist to help extend the life of your treatment and maintain smoothness.
Do I need special styling products?
Lightweight, smoothing or anti-frizz products can help maintain your results, but you’ll likely find you need less styling product overall.
Can I still wear my hair curly or wavy?
Yes. Your hair will be easier to style and more manageable, but you can still wear it straight, wavy, or curly.
How should I dry my hair?
Blow-drying will enhance the smoothing effect and give you the sleekest finish. Air drying is also an option for a softer, more natural look.
Maintenance & longevity
How long will my smoothing treatment last?
Typically 8–12 weeks, depending on your hair type, lifestyle, and at-home care.
Will my hair grow out frizzy?
Your natural texture will grow in at the roots, while the treated hair remains smoother.
Can I color my hair after a smoothing treatment?
Yes — wait about 1–2 weeks after your treatment before coloring to maintain hair health and longevity of results.
Will a smoothing treatment damage my hair?
When performed professionally, smoothing treatments can help hair feel softer, shinier, and more manageable. Proper aftercare is key to maintaining healthy results.
